(VOVworld) – British Prime Minister David Cameron announced Monday a Strategic Defence and Security Review which will increase defence spending and establish a new task force.

David Cameron visited RAF Northolt on Nov. 23rd, 2015 to see the RAF Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jet before announcing details of the government's defence review.

According to the report, the Ministry of Defense will spend 178 billion pounds, 12 billion pounds above previous estimates, over the next decade to purchase weapons and military equipment.

The report cites a growing threat from Muslim terrorist groups to the UK, its citizens, and its interests abroad. 

To deal with the situation, an additional 1,900 intelligence and security workers will be recruited.

Since 2010, more than 60 British citizens have been killed in terrorist attacks abroad including the recent attacks in Sousse, Tunisia, and Paris.
