UN allocates 4 million USD to disaster mitigation in Vietnam

(VOVWORLD) - The United Nations has approved an additional 4.2 million USD to help locals in six Vietnamese provinces affected by typhoon Damrey.

The money comes from the UN Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) and will be used to provide food assistance, access to clean water and sanitation and other types of lifesaving assistance. Earlier this month, the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) allocated 100,000 USD for emergency relief activities

The United Nations in Vietnam estimated that the country requires 60 million USD in the next year to respond to short and medium-term demand following the typhoon, and to help improve the communities’ disaster resilience.
