Addressing the ceremony, current Secretary General Antonio Guterres said the UN experienced its most dynamic days under Mr. Annan’s administration. At the UN Millennium Summit in 2015 world leaders reached an important agreement on eradicating poverty, infant mortality, and HIV/AIDS. Mr. Guterres said that amid long term conflicts in a divided world, Kofi Annan’s peace-making spirit needs to be emulated.
