UN court rejects most of Ukraine’s case against Russia on Donbass and Crimea

(VOVWORLD) - The International Court of Justice on Wednesday rejected most of Ukraine’s case against Russia for non-compliance with two conventions in Donbass and Crimea.

Judge Joan Donoghue, President of the International Court of Justice, said that on the Donbass issue, Russia has complied with all obligations under most provisions of the conventions and only violated it once.

Regarding Crimea, the International Court rejected most of the Ukrainian government's claims. According to Donoghue, Russia has implemented its educational system in Crimea since 2014 with regard to school education in the Ukrainian language.

The lawsuit filed by Kiev in 2017 argued that Russia's actions in Donbass violated the International Convention on the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism, and that Russia's actions in Crimea violated the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.
