UN Security Council discusses growing instability in Democratic Republic of Congo

(VOVWORLD) -The United Nations Security Council met on Monday on the Democratic Republic of Congo’s unrest and activities of the UN Organisation Stabilization Mission there (MONUSCO).

Ambassador Pham Hai Anh, Charge d'affaires of Vietnam to the United Nations, voiced his concern over prolonged instability in the Democratic Republic of Congo where civilians have become the main target of armed groups. 

He also expressed his concern over the humanitarian situation and called for further support for the UN's humanitarian fund in the DR Congo.

The diplomat emphasized the necessity to look for solutions to underlying causes of instability and violence through new and advanced strategies that will ensure the protection of civilians, restore State authority, natural resources management and security improvement.

He underlined the significance of cooperation between the DR Congo and neighboring countries and region and crucial support of the international community for the efforts.
