UN seeks to revive Syrian talks
(VOVWORLD) - A statement released on Wednesday said the Special Envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura is engaged in high-level consultations to examine options for kick-starting the UN-facilitated Syrian peace process called for in Security Council Resolution 2254.

The 2015 resolution calls for free and fair elections in Syria and a new constitution as the basis for a Syrian-led, Syrian-owned process to end the conflict. So far this week, Mr. de Mistura has met with the foreign ministers of several countries attending the League of Arab States summit in Saudi Arabia. He is scheduled to meet with senior officials in Turkey before heading to Russia and Iran for more high-level meetings. He is also expected to consult with European ministers and US officials at a Syria conference in Brussels next week.
