UN urges action to root out poverty
(VOVWORLD) - UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres called on the international community Tuesday to address the root causes of poverty to completely eliminate the problem.

In a statement on International Day for the Eradication of Poverty on October 17, Mr. Guterres highlighted the importance of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development to ensure a world of peace, prosperity, and equality.
Despite progress in poverty reduction, more than 800 million people around the world still suffer from poverty. The UN has set a target of eradicating poverty by 2030.
