UNICEF, celebrities appeal to G7 countries to donate COVID vaccinations

(VOVWORLD) - UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors footballer David Beckham, actress Whoopi Goldberg, and songwriter Angelique Kidjo on Tuesday signed an open letter to the upcoming G7 Summit of world leaders to demand that the leaders commit to donating COVID-19 vaccines to poorer countries.

They asked the G7 countries to make donations by August and scale up the donations as supplies increase. Signatories said the Summit provides an opportunity for the G7 to agree to actions that will get COVID-19 vaccines quickly to where they are most needed.

A UNICEF analysis shows that G7 countries will soon have enough doses to donate 20% of their vaccines between June and August – over 150 million doses – without significant delay to current plans to vaccinate their own adult populations.
