(VOVworld) – Relations between the US and China have been on the right track, said China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi during a phone call on Wednesday with US Secretary of State John Kerry. Wang urged both sides to step up cooperation and the settlement of disputes to promote a new model of major power relations.

One of the main topics of their talks were rulings by the Permanent Court of Arbitration on the Philippines’ lawsuit against China’s claims in the East Sea. Kerry said Washington thoroughly understands Beijing’s stance and called on claimants to restrain from provocation. He added that both countries share the interests of peace and stability in the East Sea and voiced Washington’s support for efforts to address any differences diplomatically. Wang also asked the US to honor its commitment to not to take sides on issues related to sovereign disputes.
