On the same day, senior Biden administration officials – USAID chief, Samantha Power and US State Department Acting Assistant Secretary for Europe and Eurasian Affairs, Yuri Kim arrived in Azerbaijan.

On Thursday they held talks with President Ilham Aliyev about the humanitarian situation in Nagorno-Karabakh and the importance that Azerbaijan comply with its commitments.

During a trip to Armenia earlier this week, Power said Washington would support Armenia, adding that it was essential for the international community to have access to the Nagorno-Karabakh region amid growing concerns about the humanitarian situation there.

On Wednesday, Armenia reported that more than 50,000 people or 30% of the population of Nagorno-Karabakh have fled to the country in recent days.
