US President Obama to attend G20 summit in China and EAS in Laos

(VOVworld) – US Department of State announced on Thursday that President Barack Obama is to travel to China and Laos on September 2nd to highlight the US’s commitment to its policy of pivoting to Asia and the Pacific.

According to the plan, President Obama will participate in his final G20 summit, where he will emphasize the need to continue building on the progress made since 2009 in advancing strong, sustainable and balanced global economic growth. President Obama will underscore the importance of G20 cooperation in promoting a level playing field and broad-based economic opportunity for all participants.

He will also meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Hangzhou to discuss a wide range of global, regional and bilateral issues.

After that, President Obama will participate in the US-ASEAN Summit and the East Asia Summit (EAS) in Laos, becoming the first US President ever to visit Laos.

He will have bilateral meetings with President Bounnhang Vorachith and other key Lao officials to boost US-Laos cooperation on economic development and people-to-people diplomacy.

President Obama will also attend the Young Southeast Asian Leadership Initiative Summit.
