(VOVworld) -  The Obama administration has reiterated its adherence to the “One China” policy in response to President-elect Donald Trump's concerns over this principle.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest told a daily press briefing on Monday that the US government has been firmly committed to the “One China” policy and will not use the Taiwan issue to gain leverage in any dealings with Beijing. He added that overturning this principle could be detrimental to bilateral cooperation.

Senator John McCain shared the same view, saying that the US’s 4-decade external affairs policy should not be changed. McCain warned of the strong political opposition Trump may face if he tries to revoke the “One China” policy.
