US, RoK committed to advancing diplomacy with DPRK

(VOVWORLD) - The United States and South Korea remain committed to advancing efforts to denuclearize North Korea and establish lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula through dialogue with the North, US Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Biegun told reporters on Monday.

"The US and South Korea are fully committed to diplomacy as a way to reach an enduring peace on the Korean Peninsula, to achieve denuclearization, to bring about a brighter future for all Korean people and to bring about normalcy in the US relationship with North Korea,’ Biegun said following a meeting with his South Korean counterpart, Lee Do-hoon.

Biegun said the US and South Korea cannot do it by themselves and need North Korea to be engaged, adding they remain open to discussions when North Korea is ready.

South and North Korea technically remain at war as the Korean War ended only with an armistice, not a peace treaty.
