The South's Presidential Office said Sunday that during a phone call on Saturday, US President Trump told his South Korean counterpart that he welcomed the two Koreas for reaffirming their common goal of complete denuclearization of the Korean peninsula.

On the same day, South Korea's Presidential Office said that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un announced plan to shut down his nuclear test site in May and invite experts and journalists from the South and the US into the country to witness its closure. Mr Kim said that there is no reason for the North to possess nuclear weapons if the US commits to end the war and promises non-aggression policy.

Speaking at a rally in Michigan on Saturday, President Trump said he expects to meet with the North Korean leader over the next three or four weeks.
