The last time the two leaders met was a year ago in Bali during a summit of the G20 countries.

Speaking to the press on Tuesday, President Biden said he wanted to resume communications with China, particularly military communications. He said the US is making an effort to improve relations with Beijing following years of contentiousness.

National security spokesperson John Kirby told reporters that Biden and Xi would also talk about the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza and US efforts to support Ukraine.
