Venezuela urges US to revoke decree calling Caracas a security threat

(VOVworld) – Venezuelan Foreign Minister Delcy Rodriguez told Thomas Shannon, visiting top counselor at the US State Department, on Wednesday that Caracas wants Washington to revoke an executive order naming Venezuela as a national security threat.

Venezuela suggested a senior US official meet with President Nicolas Maduro prior to the Summit of the Americas which opens in Panama on Friday.

US President Barack Obama and President Maduro are expected to meet outside of the Summit. Maduro plans to bring a petition with 10 million Venezuelan signatories demanding that Obama remove the executive order.
