Ambassador Ngoc recently had an online conversation with Congressman Joaquin Castro, who is also  co-chair of the Congressional Caucus on ASEAN. The two sides exchanged views on promoting the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Partnership and ASEAN-US Strategic Partnership and issues of mutual concern.

Congressman Castro said he will discuss with US authorities pending issues, including an investigation under Section 301 into Vietnam’s alleged currency undervaluation.

He pledged to make every effort to ensure security, safety and right of access to health, education and social security services for the Vietnamese community in the US and said he and other members of Congress will lobby the House and Senate to pass the bill on Southeast Asia Strategy.

Regarding recent complicated developments in the East Sea, especially in the Ba Dau (Whitsun) Reef and Sinh Ton Dong (Sin Cowe East) Reef, Castro affirmed that the US strongly supports the respect of sovereignty of regional countries, including Vietnam.
