(VOVworld) – The UN General Assembly has convened a plenary session to discuss the relations among the UN, parliaments, and the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
Addressing the meeting in New York on Monday, Ambassador and head of the Vietnamese Permanent mission to the UN, Le Hoai Trung, said that over the past 35 years the Vietnamese National Assembly has participated in IPU activities pursuant to the organization’s principles and goals and has ceaselessly boosted relations with other parliaments and nations around the world. Vietnam will organize the 132nd IPU meeting in Hanoi next March. Ambassador Trung said the current complications in the world, including the situation in the East Sea, show the importance of preserving and protecting peace. This requires countries to be determined to observe basic principles of international law, respect sovereignty and territorial integrity, not threaten the use of force, and deal with international conflicts in accordance with the UN Charter, the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea.

The UN General Assembly agreed to adopt a resolution on relations among the UN, parliaments, and the Inter-Parliamentary Union initiated by Vietnam, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Russia, China, Singapore, and Thailand.
