Vietnam and the European Union strengthen cooperation

(VOVworld) - Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh has met Vice President of the European Commission, Valdis Dombrovskis, in Brussels. Deputy Prime Minister Ninh said Vietnam wants to promote cooperation with the EU as a priority partner and expects European support in training, science and technology, climate change response.

He hoped for the EU early recognition of its market economy while a free trade deal between Vietnam and the EU is signed. The EC Vice President said both sides are finalizing technical requirements in the recognition of Vietnam’s market economy.
He praised Vietnam’s contribution to the ASEAN and shared Vietnam’s concerns about reclamation of land and changing the status quo in the East Sea, affirming that conflict in the East Sea must be settled by peaceful means based on international law and the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.
