Vietnam attaches importance to cooperation with OIF

(VOVworld) – Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Phuong Nga has praised efforts by the International Organisation of Francophonie (OIF) to ensure global peace, security, and sustainable growth. She made the appraisal at a ceremony in Hanoi on Wednesday to mark the International Francophone Day that ‘in pursuing a dynamic foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, cooperation, and international integration, Vietnam treasures its cooperation with OIF and its members. Vietnam has participated in the organization’s mechanisms, and supported solidarity among members. Most recently, Vietnam has been elected as President of the Committee for Cooperation and Programs of the Standing Committee on Francophone Affairs for the 2013 – 2015 period. Vietnam will be a member of the Directors’ Board of French-speaking Universities.

Anissa Barrak, Director of the Asia-Pacific Office of OIF, spoke highly of cooperation between the organization and Vietnam to enhance the diversification and increase the spread of the French language. She commented that ‘with economic achievements and a dynamic diplomatic sector, Vietnam has played an important role in promoting the relations of French-speaking countries in Asia-Pacific and other regions.

On this occasion, Ton Nu Thi Ninh, former Director of the National Assembly’s Committee for External Relations and Tuong Huyen Tram, head of a group of French lovers in Hanoi were conferred with medals for their contributions to the promotion of the French language in Vietnam.
