Vietnam attends 5th ASEAN-Pacific Alliance Ministers Meeting

(VOVWORLD) - Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh on Wednesday attended the 5th ASEAN and Pacific Alliance Ministers Meeting, and had bilateral meetings with the President of Palau and the Foreign Ministers of Ecuador and Ukraine.

The meetings took place on the sidelines of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

At the Ministers’ Meeting, Mr. Minh said Vietnam values the relationship between ASEAN and regional organizations, hailed the commitments of the Pacific Alliance members, and underlined the important role of inter-regional links. He said the two organizations’ members can take advantage of existing mechanisms to increase trade and promote an open, rules-based market.

Mr. Minh thanked the President of Palau and the Foreign Ministers of Ecuador and Ukraine for their condolences for the passing of President Tran Dai Quang. He briefed them on Vietnam’s achievements in external affairs, particularly in honoring international commitments. He said that, if elected, Vietnam will fulfill its duties as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in the 2020-2021 tenure.
