(VOVworld) – A ceremony took place in Hanoi yesterday to mark the 45th anniversary of Vietnam-Cambodia diplomatic ties. Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Head of the Steering Committee for the 2012 Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Year, underlined that over the past 45 years, Vietnam and Cambodia have stood side by side, supported and assisted each other in the cause for national independence, prosperity and the right to live in peace and happiness.  Cambodian Ambassador to Vietnam Hul Phanny stressed that Cambodia will always remember and remain deeply indebted to the Vietnamese Party, State and people for their support and assistance in ousting the genocidal Khmer Rouge regime in 1979. He expressed his hopes that the solidarity, friendship and co-operation between Vietnam and Cambodia will develop further in the future and contribute to building a strong and united ASEAN.

The same day, Vietnamese embassy in Cambodia held a reception to celebrate the event.

On this occasion, Friendship Organization of Cambodia’s Mondukhiri province and Vietnam’s Dac Nong province signed a memorandum of understanding on building a common border line of peace and friendship.
