Vietnam, Chile strengthen multi-faceted cooperation

(VOVworld) - National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung has expressed his belief that the visit by the Chilean Senate President to Vietnam will contribute to developing the traditional friendship between the two nations to a new level, and boosting cooperation between the two parliaments.

Chairman Hung was speaking at a reception for Chilean Senate Speaker Guido Girardin Lavin in Hanoi on Tuesday. “The Chilean Senate President and his entourage have traveled a long way to Vietnam, showing a warm sentiment and friendship between the two nations. On behalf of the Vietnamese National Assembly and people, I wish the Senate President’s visit a great success.” Hung said.

The two leaders agreed to continue cooperation in international issues, especially at inter-parliamentary forums of the Asia – Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), the European Union (EU), and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). They also pledged to foster the ties between the two parliaments to create a foundation for economic and trade cooperation and enhance investment in science and technology, mining, education, urban management, child care, environment, and aquaculture.

At a reception for the Chilean Senate Speaker later on Tuesday, President Truong Tan Sang said that the signing of the bilateral Free Trade Agreement has turned over a new page in the two countries’ cooperation.

Lavin said the Chilean Senate will soon ratify the signed Free Trade Agreement. He invited President Truong Tan Sang and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung to visit Chile.
