During talks with Under Secretary General of the UN Counter-Terrorism Office Vladimir Voronkov in New York on Monday, Mr. Lam said Vietnam will carry out the UN Security Council’s resolutions on terrorism prevention, stand ready to host international conferences on border control, join projects and initiatives on aviation security management, attend UN conferences scheduled for later this year in Belarus and the UN High-Level Conference on Counter-Terrorism in 2020.

Mr. Lam said Vietnam will assume the role of ASEAN Chair in 2020 and will work closely with the UN and other ASEAN members to combat terrorism. Vietnam wants to contribute to global peace and security and be a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2020-2021 tenure, he said.

At a meeting with the Vietnamese Permanent Mission to the UN, Mr. Lam said he hopes the mission will urge the UN to work with Vietnamese agencies and the Ministry of Public Security to address non-traditional security challenges.
