(VOVworld) – The Vietnamese nation in the 20th century has made great contributions to humankind’s thoughts on human rights. To mark the 64th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, on December 10th, the national daily Nhan Dan (People) ran an article by Cao Duc Thai, who confirmed Vietnam’s contributions, citing Ho Chi Minh’s thoughts and the practices of Vietnam’s revolutions. The author said Vietnam’s history showed that human rights was only achieved in Vietnam when the Vietnamese people regained independence under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh in the August 1945 revolution. National independence, sovereignty, citizens’ rights and human rights were declared in the 1945 Declaration of Independence, and the 1946 Constitution, the first constitution of the new Vietnam. The ideal of an independent, sovereign nation belonging to the people and led by the Communist Party of Vietnam, in which citizens’ rights and human rights are respected. They are included in the Party’s platforms, guidelines and policies, the constitution and legal system throughout the revolutionary periods since Vietnam gained independence. The author also noted that Vietnam is facing numerous problems   related to human rights, and said protecting and ensuring human rights are the responsibility of the Vietnamese Party and State. He added that no model of democracy and human rights imposed from outside will be accepted by the Vietnamese people.
