Vietnam diplomatic sector promotes international integration

(VOVworld) - The 28th conference on the Vietnamese diplomacy with international integration opened in Hanoi on Monday.  Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong attended the conference. In his address, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh said the conference aimed to review Vietnam’s external activities and international integration over the past years. He said the meeting would also map out orientations and tasks for the following years:“As Vietnam’s modernization and industrialization is scheduled to  be completed in the next 7 years and ASEAN’s Community will be set up within 2 years, Vietnam’s diplomacy needs to be further associated with the demands of national development, assisting the implementation of the Socio-Economic Development Strategy until 2020. We need to work out solutions to boost diplomatic activities in all areas: culture, information-communication, overseas Vietnamese affairs, citizen protection and strengthening the coordination between diplomacy and national defense and security to promote peace, stability and development”.

Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong lauded achievements of the diplomatic sector. He also pointed out complications and challenges facing the country and the world by the end of term of the 11th National Party Congress and further.“The diplomatic sector needs to play a leading role in ensuring a favorable environment for national construction and defense, industrialization and modernizations and tasks set out in the Socio-Economic Development Strategy until 2020, under which Vietnam will become an industrialized country. During the war, the soldiers struggled to defend the country. Now in peace, diplomats need to be pioneers in creating peace, defending the nation and attracting resources for national development”.

The participants from different ministries and sectors agreed to strengthen cooperation in external activities. The conference will wrap up on Friday.
