As part of the Vietnam-UK Friendship Year celebrating 50 years of bilateral diplomatic relations, the event aimed to boost cooperation between Vietnam and Scotland, particularly in trade, investment, renewable energy, education and tourism.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Nguyen Hoang Long said that with the UK-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (UKVFTA) coming into effect in 2021, as well as the two countries completing bilateral negotiations for the UK to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), this year will open up great opportunities to promote mutual trade and business links.

Mark Boyce, Head of Economic Diplomacy and Engagement at the Scottish Government, said Scotland values its relations with Vietnam. He added that there remains ample room for bilateral collaboration in trade, tourism, wind energy, and higher education, particularly in climate and environmental studies which can be considered as Scotland's strengths.
