In a statement issued Monday, the Vietnam Fisheries Society described China’s actions as wrongful and perverse and asked China to stop such acts of aggression, intimidation, robbery, and illegal arrest of Vietnamese citizens. The Society urged China to compensate the fishermen for their property damage and called on Vietnamese agencies to voice their protest, condemn China’s violations, and demand that China release the fishermen and their fishing boat.

According to reports by fishermen and Quang Ngai province’s Fisheries Society, last Thursday China illegally impounded Vietnamese fishing vessel QNg 94912 owned by fisherman Vo Dat of Duc Pho district with 6 fishermen on board as they were operating in the Tonkin Gulf.
