Vietnam fosters relations with Hungary

(VOVworld) – President Truong Tan Sang on Monday met with Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban and Speaker of Parliament Laszlo Kover. The two sides agreed that Vietnam and Hungary each has its own strength and the two could complement each other. Vietnam is a developing country with a big market of nearly 90 million people. Hungary has strength in the fields of agriculture, education, training, pharmaceuticals, and information technology. Orban and Kover agreed on the important role of culture in the two countries and for the 4000 Vietnamese people living and working in Hungary.

President Sang and senior Hungarian leaders witnessed the signing of an extradition treaty, an agreement on training, legislation and technology in the use of atomic energy for peaceful purposes, and an agreement on cultural cooperation in the 2014-2016 period.

On this occasion, President Sang also met his Hungarian counterpart Janos Ader in Budapest. He thanked the Hungarian people for their valuable assistance to Vietnamese people during their past struggle for national independence and unification and the current cause of national defense and development.

President Sang spoke highly of the achievements Hungarian people have made in national modernization and European integration, and wished them greater success in national development. For his part, President Janos Ader told President Sang that Hungary wants to strengthen its traditional friendship and long-term, multifaceted cooperation with Vietnam. They also exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues of mutual concern, and agreed that Vietnam and Hungary will increase cooperation at international organizations and forums. They expressed the belief that President Sang’s first-ever visit to Hungary will open up a new chapter in bilateral relations, contributing to boosting friendship and all-round cooperation between the two countries. After the talks, the two Presidents released a Vietnam-Hungary joint statement. President Sang and senior Hungarian leaders witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between Hanoi and Budapest, and a cooperation agreement on water management, education, and agriculture.

President Sang on Tuesday attended a Vietnam-Hungary Business Forum. He said that during its international integration process, Vietnam attaches great importance to cooperation with its traditional friends including Hungary. He added that close cooperation between the two countries will help Hungarian businesses enter ASEAN and Asia and Vietnamese businesses penetrate the European market. President Sang said: “Vietnam always remains open to Hungarian investors. We will adjust what is necessary to create a favorable environment to facilitate their business in Vietnam.”

In his address, Hungarian Deputy Prime Minister Navracsics Torbo said Hungary wants to boost trade cooperation with Vietnam, which plays an important role in ASEAN. The two sides signed 3 cooperative agreements   at the forum.
