Thayer said Vietnam enjoys strong economic growth and domestic stability, two fundamental criteria for making active contributions. Vietnam also has a broad international network to support its initiatives at the UN.

Thayer praised Vietnam’s coordination of joint efforts by ASEAN and the UN to meet security challenges. Vietnam has a tradition of unity, the key factor in its victory in resistance wars, he said, adding Vietnam knows how to cooperate and negotiate with other countries. Thayer said he has confidence in Vietnam’s professional diplomacy.
