At their talks in Hanoi on Wednesday, the Chairman of Vietnam’s National Assembly, Nguyen Sinh Hung, and the Speaker of Indonesia’s House of Representatives, Marzuki Alie, agreed to speed up the implementation of a cooperation agreement between both legislative bodies. They also agreed to work closer together at international and regional inter-parliamentary forums, particularly within the framework of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). Chairman Hung said that after nearly six decades since both countries first established diplomatic ties, Speaker Marzuki Alie’s visit highlights the traditional friendship and cooperation between the two countries as they work towards a strategic partnership. In his role as President of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, Speaker Alie said that the AIPA acknowledges and values Vietnam’s presence in the AIPA Council. He said he believed that Vietnam will make an active contribution to the success of the forthcoming 33rd AIPA General Assembly.
