(VOVworld) - Irish President Michael Higgins and his spouse Sabina Higgins on Monday begin a State-level visit to Vietnam at the invitation of President Tran Dai Quang. The visit from November 7 to November 14 aims to further enhance ties between Ireland and Vietnam.

After the official welcoming ceremony on Monday, both presidents hold talks. In the afternoon, President Higgins will meet with National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.
On Tuesday, the Irish President will lay a wreath at the Monument for Heroic Martyrs and have a talk with students at the Hanoi National University. Later on, he will meet with Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong.
During his stay, President Higgins will visit projects on landmine clearance and poverty reduction funded by Ireland in Hue and Quang Tri. He will also visit Ho Chi Minh City and Ha Long Bay in Quang Ninh province.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the visit marks the 20th anniversary of Vietnam-Ireland diplomatic ties and opens a new period of development in bilateral relationship.
