Vietnam, Japan agree to strengthen cooperation in various areas

(VOVWORLD) - Speaker of the Japanese House of Representatives Oshima Tadamori and his spouse began an official visit to Vietnam on Thursday at the invitation of National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.

After the welcoming ceremony, the two top legislators held talks. In her address, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan said strengthening relationship with Japan is one of priorities in Vietnam’s foreign policy. Ms Ngan called on Japanese groups to get involved in Vietnam’s SOE and banking restructuring under the PPP investment method. Vietnam wanted to strengthen cooperation with Japan in high tech and support industries and agriculture as well as in climate change response and labor. Ngan urged the two legislatures to maintain exchanges, increase dialogues, and share experience.

The Japanese side affirmed its support for the implementation of bilateral economic agreements and asked the two legislative bodies to increase the oversight of cooperative programs between the two governments and ministries. Concerning the East Sea issue, the two sides agreed to exert efforts to maintain peace, stability, freedom of aviation and navigation, non-militarization and law respect in the East Sea.

To mark the occasion, NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan invited members of the Japanese House of Representatives to attend the IPU Conference on Climate Change hosted in HCM City by the Vietnam National Assembly
