(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam and Laos will closely coordinate for more comprehensive and practical cooperation, according to a meeting in Hanoi on Tuesday between President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Lao Party leader and President Thongloun Sisoulith.

President Phuc said Mr. Thongloun Sisoulith’s selection of Vietnam for his first overseas trip after taking office demonstrates the importance Laos attaches to the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.
The two leaders showed their determination to implement signed agreements and remained committed to strengthening their partnership in security and defence, economy, trade, investment, agriculture, and education and training; and promoting locality-to-locality cooperation. They pledged to continue efforts to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic and promote sustainable development.
They also discussed cooperation at multilateral forums, especially ASEAN and the Greater Mekong Sub-region, and collaboration among Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.
The same day, Mr. Thongloun Sisoulith and his entourage left Hanoi, wrapping up their 2-day official visit to Vietnam.
