Vietnam marks International Coastal Cleanup Day

(VOVWORLD) - Nearly 500 Youth Union members, workers, and local people in Ba Ria-Vung Tau city on Saturday collected waste and cleaned the beaches as part of activities in response to International Coastal Cleanup Day, a community event that encouraged the community to participate in helping keep waterways clean and minimize the use of plastic products.

Each participant is expected to collect at least 1.2 kg of debris on the shoreline. Le Quang An of the Ba Ria-Vung Tau University, one of the participants, said: “In Vietnam, there are still a lot of debris along the coast. We need to encourage the public to keep the coast clean in order to protect people’s health and keep the coastal ecology stable.”

Activities to mark International Coastal Cleanup Day have been held in 28 cities and provinces nationwide.
