Speaking to VOV on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the first victory of the Vietnam People’s Navy in the resistance war against American imperialism, Major General, Admiral, and Political Commissar of the Navy Service Dinh Gia That said the lessons drawn from this victory are useful in the current context. The Vietnam People’s Navy now serves as a fighting force and also a production force. The Navy has implemented a number of marine economic development models to improve the lives of marine soldiers who are defending Vietnam’s sea and island sovereignty. The Vietnam People’s Navy has cooperated with other naval forces to boost friendship and mutual understanding, and maintain peace, stability, and marine security in the East Sea and Asia Pacific. Mr. That talked about the future plans of the Navy Service: “The Vietnam People’s Navy will continue to build a modern force to defend the country’s sea and island sovereignty and promote communication to make people more aware of the current importance of Vietnam’s sea and islands to its socio-economic development and national defence. The Navy force will cooperate with law enforcement forces to defend the country’s sea and islands and support Vietnamese fishermen at sea”.
