Vietnam, Philippines strive to bring two-way trade to 10 billion USD

(VOVWORLD) - Chairman of the National Assembly Vuong Dinh Hue met with Speaker of the Philippine House of Representatives Martin Romualdez on Sunday on the sidelines of the 44th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA-44) in Jarkata, Indonesia.

The two leaders agreed to promote substantive bilateral relations, especially in economy, trade, and investment, and strive to raise bilateral trade turnover to 10 billion USD as soon as possible. Last year, bilateral trade turnover reached the highest ever of 8 billion USD.

Mr. Hue suggested Vietnam and the Philippines cooperate in developing supply chains and facilitate the import of Vietnam's key commodities, including rice, construction materials and other key commodities that the Philippines has potential and Vietnam has demand.

The two leaders agreed to cooperate in digital transformation and energy transformation and continue to promote parliamentary cooperation bilaterally and multilaterally.

They emphasized mutual support within multilateral frameworks, support each other's initiatives at AIPA, further strengthen solidarity, strength, and centrality of ASEAN, and maintain a common voice in regional security issues, including the East Sea issue.
