LNG is a natural gas that has been cooled to liquid form for ease and safety for non-pressurized storage or transport. According to experts, LNG is a clean fossil fuel with high economic value.

The Vietnamese government and its energy management agencies are well aware of the importance of LNG in Vietnam’s national economic development in the coming years, said Dr. Nguyen Tu Anh, Director of the General Department and the Information Center of the Party Central Committee’s Economic Commission.

“LNG is quite expensive. Without support, energy costs will be high and access to energy will be reduced, affecting economic development. Vietnam hopes to receive international support not just in finance, but also in access to technology in transitioning to the use of LNG. Modern technology will help Vietnam become self-reliant to ensure its national energy security,” said Dr. Nguyen Tu Anh.

LNG is widely used in electricity, steel, and other metal production as well as in transportation. It sees daily use in hotels, restaurants and tourist areas. As Vietnam has set a goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050, producing, using and consuming LNG is a priority for the country in the current period.
