Nga made the statement at the 10th session of the Conference of Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). 500 delegates from Convention member states and international organizations for people with disabilities were in attendance. Ms. Nga said Vietnam has one of the world’s highest disability rates. 7.2 million Vietnamese – about 8 percent of the population - have one or more disabilities. Vietnam promotes full participation by persons with disabilities not only for their own benefit but also to help develop disability-sensitive laws and strategies. Vietnam encourages a multi-stakeholder approach to mobilizing society to help persons with disabilities.
