(VOVworld)- The spokesperson for Vietnam’s Foreign Ministry Le Hai Binh on Thursday said that following news of China’s recent apprehension of 6 Vietnamese fishermen aboard the fishing boat Quang Ngai QNg 94912 TS on July 3, the Foreign Ministry of Vietnam has directed the Vietnamese Embassy and other diplomatic agencies in China to take citizen protection measures and deal with the incident. The spokesperson was speaking at the regular press conference of the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry on Thursday: “According to latest news from the Vietnamese Consulate General in Guang Zhou, this morning, representatives from the Consulate General visited the Consulate and took necessary measures to protect the fishermen. The men’s health is now stable. The 6 fishermen are being detained at the Sanya port, Sanya city, China. The Consulate General in Guang Zhou and other agencies are working closely with China to clarify the incident”.

In response to queries about some extremists demonstrating in front of Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia, Mr. Binh said this was a wrongful act that aimed to cause disorder in Cambodia and was not appropriate to the good friendship, neighbourliness and cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia. Vietnam has asked the Cambodian government to take necessary measures to prevent similar acts.

Responding to questions on whether Vietnam can learn any lessons from other countries in its legal struggle to defend Vietnam’s sovereignty in the East Sea such as the recent lawsuits of Bangladesh and India at the International Court of Arbitration, the spokesperson said all legal measures in settling disputes are peaceful and civilized. In addition to strengthening relations with the International Court of Arbitration, Vietnam will thoroughly study similar cases and related international standards.
