Vietnam to successfully host IPU-132

(VOVworld) – The 34th session of the National Assembly Standing Committee closed in Hanoi on Wednesday.

During the 3-day event, deputies discussed legislative work and commented on a number of revised laws, including the law on military service, the law on the supervision of the National Assembly and People’s Councils, the law on the organization of local administrations, and the law on the organization of the government. Prior to the closing ceremony, members of the Standing Committee discussed preparations for the 132nd General Assembly of the Inter-parliamentary Union in Hanoi in March. Chairman of the Committee for External Relations Tran Van Hang said preparations in terms of content, information, communication, protocol, logistics and security have been completed. Major topics for discussion will include peace, democracy, social progress and equality, anti-terrorism, gender equality, and water resource protection. Vietnam’s National Assembly proposed the topic “Parliaments and the implementation of post-2015 sustainable development programs” and will host the “Young parliamentarians” program”.

National Assembly Chairman and President of the IPU-32 State Steering Committee Nguyen Sinh Hung said thorough preparations should be made to make the event a success: “All forces should provide the best possible services for the General Assembly. The event’s success should be considered ours. The steering committee, National Assembly agencies, and Hanoi should do their best.”
