The handing-over also marked the conclusion of a six-year project to clean up the environmental pollution at the airport, which was jointly implemented by the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defence and the US International Development Agency (USAID) with a non-refundable aid of 110 million USD funded by the US Government.

Deputy Minister of National Defence Sen. Lieut. Gen. Nguyen Chi Vinh said: “The Vietnamese and US governments have committed to continue treatment of dioxin pollution in Bien Hoa airport. I look forward to having the cooperation of the US Embassy, the Ambassador, the US International Development Agency, and other sectors and organizations to begin the work soon. The Bien Hoa project is much bigger than the Da Nang airport project. I believe we’ll succeed.”

US Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel Kristenbrink said the US government has committed to continuing its collaboration with Vietnam to redress the war aftermath and detoxify dioxin pollution in Bien Hoa airport.
