Vietnam, US relations progress well

(VOVworld) – Deputy Defense Minister Nguyen Chi Vinh has said that Vietnam-US relations have progressed well. He said this at a reception for US Assistant Secretary for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Daniel Russel in Hanoi on Monday.

Mr. Vinh said he hopes the US will continue to support Vietnam in preparing forces to join UN peacekeeping activities, handling dioxin contamination, searching  and dismantling landmines and unexploded ordnance left from the war, and continuing the search for servicemen who were reported missing in action (MIA) during the Vietnam war.

Russel said he believes Vietnam-US army cooperation will continue to expand, contributing to regional peace and cooperation. The two diplomats said US President Barack Obama’s coming visit to Vietnam will raise bilateral ties to a new level.
