Vietnam wishes for Myanmar’s stability, development

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam calls on related parties to restrain, avoid actions that may escalate tensions, and engage in dialogues to settle their conflicts in accordance with Myanmar’s constitution and laws and its people’s aspirations. 

The call was made by Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, Head of the Vietnam Delegation to the UN, at an informal meeting of the UN General Assembly on Myanmar held on Friday.

Quy said recent happenings in Myanmar is detrimental to its own stability, development, and legitimate rights. He underlined the importance of facilitating the democratic process in Myanmar and ensuring the safety and access to humanitarian aid and necessary services for its people.

Quy added that Vietnam hopes Myanmar soon restores its stability for its own development as well as for regional peace, security, and cooperation.

The Ambassador suggested the international community support Myanmar’s democratic transition, respect the independence and sovereignty of every country, and not interfere in others' internal affairs.

Vietnam backs the meditation role of the UN Secretary-General’s special envoy on Myanmar and encourages his cooperation with ASEAN to settle Myanmar’s situation, Quy affirmed.

ASEAN will continue supporting Myanmar in restoring its peace, honoring the rule of law, and reconciliating as the base for sustainable development. Mr. Quy asked for further assistance for ASEAN in handling this issue, saying all solutions should be supplemtary in preventing conflicts. Any of the solutions will be weighed carefully to minimize its impacts on local people who are hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.
