Vietnamese abroad celebrate Tet

(VOVworld) – Vietnamese embassies have organized an array of activities to celebrate Tet, the traditional lunar new year festival.

The Vietnamese embassy and the Lao embassy in Beijing, China on Saturday held an exchange to strengthen cooperation between the two embassies and to celebrate the lunar new year festival. Vietnamese ambassador Nguyen Van Tho reviewed major achievements in Vietnam-Laos relations in recent years: “We are confident that our comprehensive cooperation will continue to prosper in the coming years. I hope that our embassies will continue to unite and contribute to the friendship between the two nations.”

The Vietnamese embassy in Japan held a meeting for the Vietnamese community there the same day. More than 200 Vietnamese people working and living in Japan attended the event.

The Vietnamese embassy in Indonesia and the Vietnamese delegation to ASEAN also organized a Tet celebration. ASEAN Secretary General le Luong Minh, the Lao ambassador to Indonesia and the ambassador and head of the Lao delegation to ASEAN, the Cuban ambassador to Indonesia, and representatives of the Vietnamese community in Indonesia attended the event. Vietnamese ambassador Nguyen Xuan Thuy briefed guests on Vietnam’s targets in 2014 and reiterated the country’s support for the Vietnamese community in Indonesia.

The Vietnamese embassy and the Vietnamese community in Belgium celebrated Tet on Saturday. Ambassador Pham Sanh Chau said that the biggest success of the Vietnamese community in Belgium in 2013 was the establishment of a Vietnamese Association in Belgium, which has been recognized by the state of Vietnam. He hoped that the Association and the Vietnamese community in Belgium will continue to develop and reap further success in the new year.

The Vietnamese ambassador to Germany Nguyen Thi Hoang Anh on Saturday extended her new year greetings to overseas Vietnamese and foreign guests. She reviewed Vietnam’s achievements in 2013. Vietnam obtained an economic growth rate of 5.4% last year and has established strategic partnerships with 13 countries and comprehensive partnerships with 11 others.

The Vietnamese embassy in Mexico on Saturday organized a Tet celebration for the Vietnamese community there and Cuban and Mexican friends. Ambassador Le Thanh Tung praised the great support of Cuba and Mexico for Vietnam and reviewed Vietnam’s major achievements in 2013.

Vietnamese Consul General in Sydney Mai Phuoc Dung at a Tet celebration on Saturday called on overseas Vietnamese to contribute to developing the homeland. The Vietnamese Consul General in Houston, Texas Nguyen van Hoa reviewed major developments in Vietnam-US relations and pledged his utmost to strengthen relations between the two countries.
