(VOVWORLD) - A ceremony took place in Bratislava on Friday to celebrate the recognition of the Vietnamese community as Slovakia’s 14th ethnic minority group.

In early June the Slovak Government officially granted the national minority status for the Vietnamese community.

Slovakia is the second host country in the world to recognize the Vietnamese community as one of its ethnic minority groups after the Czech Republic.

Ambassador Nguyen Tuan said the recognition demonstrated the Vietnamese community's active contributions to Slovakia’s development, thereby promoting the already fine friendship between the two countries.

Ambassador Tuan said that Vietnamese people in Slovakia will join their compatriots around the world to build and develop a strong community winning the appreciation of the host governments.
