Vietnamese culture shines at UNESCO

(VOVWORLD) - Lion dance, folk melodies, Dong Ho folk paintings, and cuisine were featured at Vietnam Culture Night at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France, on Monday.

The event, held by the Permanent Delegation of Vietnam to UNESCO ahead of the 42nd session of UNESCO’s General Conference, drew nearly 200 ambassadors and foreign representatives.

Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Ha Kim Ngoc said this was an opportunity for Vietnam and UNESCO to promote heritage and culture for sustainable development and self-reliance and proves that this bilateral cooperation has become a role model for other programs around the world.

By running for a seat on the World Heritage Committee for the 2023‑2027 tenure, Vietnam is reiterating its commitment to preserving its cultural heritage and contributing more to UNESCO, said Mr. Ngoc.

He noted said that this is one of the important events to reaffirm our respect for Vietnam’s cooperation with UNESCO and to promote our policy on preserving heritages around the world.

"It delivers the message: Vietnam is an active member and will make important contributions to UNESCO,"he added.

Xing Qu, UNESCO Deputy Director‑General, said that the event helped promote the diversity of Vietnam’s intangible cultural heritage to the world.
