The two cities have been sister cities since the war time. The support of Genoa’s port workers for the Vietnamese people during their resistance wars was unwavering. On November 17th, 1973, the ship Australe departed for Hai Phong carrying 500 tons of staples, medicine, and school supplies donated by Genoa’s citizens and became a symbol of their friendship.

Following the exhibit there will be an economic cooperation workshop, film screenings, and a seminar called “Vietnam, the past and today” conducted by Genoese intellectuals who supported Vietnam 40 years ago.

This year Vietnamese Day in Genoa marks 40 years of Vietnam-Italy diplomatic ties.
