Vietnamese leaders receive Lao Prime Minister

(VOVworld) – Laos’ Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong is visiting Vietnam to attend the closing ceremony of a project to increase and upgrade border markers between Vietnam and Laos. At a reception on Wednesday, President Truong Tan Sang agreed with the Lao Prime Minister’s proposed measures to construct a shared border of peace and friendship.

Prime Minister Thammavong said the reinforcement of border markers will be a long-term foundation for the building of a shared border of peace, cooperation, and friendship.

Earlier, Prime Minister Thammavong and Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung agreed to focus on the implementation of agreements reached at the 38th session of the Joint Inter-governmental Committee. They agreed to increase the exchange of visits and implement the bilateral trade agreement and the Vietnam-Laos border trade agreement towards achieving 3 billion USD in two-way trade by 2020. They also agreed to boost bilateral cooperation during Laos’ ASEAN presidency in 2016, contributing to ASEAN’s connectivity, solidarity, and unity as well as its central role in regional strategic issues, including the East Sea.
