In Hanoi, people flocked to Hoan Kiem lake in the heart of the capital city on New Year’s Eve (February 15), where a spectacular fireworks show marked the arrival of the Year of the Dog. Many spectators had the opportunity to meet Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong who took to the streets to personally extend new year wishes to the people.

“I feel peace all over the country. I’m so happy to see Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong joining Tet celebrations at Hoan Kiem lake. He is close to the people and really care for the people,” said Ngo Ngoc Dien of Ba Dinh district.

In Hue, relic sites in the imperial city were packed with domestic and foreign visitors, who are treated to spring flower festivals, folk games, calligraphy works, and royal court music.

Hue's neighboring city of Hoi An greeted the new year with an art performance to celebrate UNESCO’s recognition of Bai Choi singing as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Visitors also have the chance to learn how to make lanterns.
